I utilize a combination of traditional massage, trigger point therapy, myofacial work, and joint mobilization techniques. Unlike a traditional equine chiropractor, I spend the majority of my treatment time finding and then releasing adhesions and restrictions in the soft tissues that can cause the mobility and comfort of the horse to suffer.
Since becoming a Certified Masterson Method Practitioner and Coach in 2010, I believe that my integration of the therapies listed above, along with Masterson’s techniques, microcurrent therapy and kinesiology-taping, provide an effective way to improve the well-being of the horse.
The Masterson Method® is an integrated, multi-modality method of equine massage. It is a unique, interactive method of equine massage in which you learn to recognize and use the responses of the horse to your touch to find and release accumulated tension in key junctions of the body that most affect performance. In contrast to most traditional modalities, it enables the horse to actively participate in the process of releasing tension. It is something you do with the horse, rather than to the horse. This participation and interaction is what makes the method fascinating for those who use it. In fact, if you do not allow the horse to participate, it does not work!
Jim Masterson created this integrated version of equine bodywork that combines the use of a variety of effective hands on modalities to release tension in the key areas of the horse, these being the poll/atlas junction, the shoulders/withers junction and the hip/sacrum junction.
